40

“At age 20, we worry about what others think of us. At 40, we don't care what they think of us. At 60, we discover they haven't been thinking of us at all.”
- Ann Landers
This is my "bring it on 40" face!
Yesterday I turned 40. I forgot to write my annual birthday blog post yesterday. And, as one friend put it, that could be because I’m either in denial or getting senile. I think it might be a little bit of both. I’m not sure how I feel about 40 just yet. I’m the youngest of my siblings and friends and seven years younger than my husband, so in many ways it feels like, “Finally, I’m 40!” And in other ways it feels like, “Really, I’m 40?” Either way, it’s darn better than the alternative!

Although a day late, in my usual tradition, I’m offering you a gift in honor of my birthday! A chance to win this wonderful Say it Loud stamp set from Waltzingmouse Stamps:

All you have to do to enter is leave me a comment about how you felt about turning 40. And, if you’re younger than 40, leave me a comment about your thoughts on turning 40…whenever that may be! For a second chance to win, simply become a fan of my Simple Flourishes Facebook page. You have until Sunday, January 6, 2013, 5:00 p.m. PST to enter.

Thank you for stopping by today and have a great day.

Happy Belated Birthday Jennifer! I am not quite yet 40, almost there and will just be grateful that I am alive when it comes:)

My husband is 7 years older than me, also. When I turn 40 (in 2.5 years) I will have a 3 year old. I'm somehow less worried about 40 itself than I am about being 40 and chasing a toddler! My 30's have been awesome, so I'm thinking 40 is going to be pretty good too.

Happy Birthday to you!

Happy Belated Birthday!
I'm 35 and I remember thinking that 35 was soooo old when I was a kid. I don't feel old now, and I doubt I will feel old, even when I'm 60! It's all just a state-of-mind!!!!

And I already like your Facebook page (I think I was one of your first Like-ers, LOL)!

Happy Birthday, Jennifer! I have to say, the 40s decade was great for me. Have just left it behind (ahem) recently. In your 40s, you are young enough to have the vigor to do whatever you want, and old enough to wisely know just what it is that you want! A fab combo indeed!

Happy birthday Jennifer! Turning 40 wasn't a big deal for me, I was more bothered by turning 42! I am trying to embrace the ageing process, and yes, it's better than the alternative, but I could do without the grey hairs, and slightly creaking joints! I'm looking forward to turning 50, yes really! I'm sure I will be so much more wiser haha! Hope you had a great day and lots of pressies!

Happy birthday to you!! I turned 40 in September and I have had no problems with it. I figure I can't do anything to change my age anyway so I might as well go with it!!

Happy Birthday Jennifer! You look great at 40! I'm not there yet, but I really think age is a number, it gets as good as you feel!

Happy belated Birthday Jennifer!!! I love your blog and have followed you for years!! I just turned 39 and am going to enjoy my last year as a 30-something! I really don't have any thoughts about 40 except that its just another year but it does make me think of myself as an "old" mom! Just doesn't seem like many moms around here are my age.....most are 10 yrs younger than me!! Hope you enjoy 40! ;) x

Happy 40th birthday. I turned 40 a few years ago and didn't really have a problem with it. I'm sure you will do just fine.

I was just thinking about the contest you had last year to do something nice for someone, pay it forward. Happy to say that I did that today (as well as many other days!). I am not yet forty, a couple of years to go, but I think I might be looking forward to it! I'll be a seasoned veteran mother by then, hah! I hope you have a great birthday!

First off - Belated Birthday Wishes - hope you had a fabulous day.

As for turning 40 - as the saying goes "Life begins at 40". Certainly did for me. I met and married Jonathan, and had our daughter when I was 41. My forties were such fun and when I turned 50 things life's adventure got even better. Next big stop - 60 in 2020!!

How did I feel about turning 40? That happened just two years ago for me. Part of me was resigned to the inevitable, part of me was bewildered and asking how on earth did I get here, and the rest was just disappointed that no one threw me a big party! It still feels a little strange. Most of the time I still feel like a teenager!

To be honest...it was no different than any other birthday. Time just goes by way too fast. 40 wasn't bad...but I am only 2 years away from 50 and that sounds so old! Surely I can't be that old! Happy birthday young one!

Happy belated birthday. Hope it was a special one:-) 40 seems so long ago but I do remember that it didn't make an impression on me. One year older and I still felt young as ever. Now ask me about 50 which is one year away. Where has the time gone? Enjoy every moment.

Happy Celebration Day to YOU!!!
40 did not bother me, it was 26 for some reason, but like my Dad always says 'rather have them then not'.

I'm so very sorry that I forgot to acknowledge your special day ON the day. I'm a terrible friend! But please know that I do wish you a very happy birthday WEEK (one day is never enough). You are so very young (compared to me), so just know that life REALLY begins at 40! The best is yet to come. {{{Hugs}}}

Happy 40th birthday! I didn't think 40 was a big deal. I was married to the love of my life and we had a toddler running around. I was just happy being a wife and mother. I hope you enjoy your birthday week as Lynn said! And may your year be full of happiness!!!

40 seems like such a long time ago now....just turned 57 in November, but I don't remember 40 being as big a deal as turning 50!!! It's all just a number! Enjoy it!
