March WMS Sneak Peek - Day 1

Welcome to the first of three days of sneak peeks for the March Waltzingmouse Stamps release! There are five (yes five!) wonderful sets being released on March 1 and today the design team is sharing sneak peeks for two of the new sets: Back in the Saddle and Way Out West. So put on your cowboy boots, grab your hat and let’s ride!

I have to tell you, these sets are fun, fun, fun to work with! I don't have anything like them in my collection, and you know how we stampers are always trying to fill the voids!

For this first card, I stamped the background using the star border stamp from Way Out West. The stars are just one of several backgrounds included in the set. The sentiment is from the other new Western set, Back in the Saddle. And talk about fun! Just reading through the sentiments will give you a ton of ideas on how to use these stamps (as you'll see with my next card).

I decided to grunge up my card a little by inking and distressing the edges. To add to the Western theme, I created a sheriff's badge using my Silhouette digital cutter. I inked it and added some brads to make it look a little more authentic. Then I added a little lasso I created with some jute twine. I knew I was hanging onto that twine for some reason!

Now, as I said, reading through the sentiments included in the Back in the Saddle set, my mind starting spinning with ideas. There was one idea I just couldn't get out of my head. It's a little unconventional, but I think it works:

Yes, I know Western themed baby cards are probably not on the top of your list, but how cute is this? When I saw that sentiment I just had to make a feminine card. I started with a onesie shape that I cut using my Silhouette. I stamped it with the plaid stamp from Off Beat Backgrounds, stamping it on the diagonal. I then added my buckin' bronco, as I like to call him. The background pattern on the card itself was created using the small rose stamp from Roses in Bloom. I guess it's my version of a Texas rose! Here's a close up of the patterns and the great font used in the sentiment:

I have to admit, I was pretty surprised at how inspired I became with these two sets. Not only are they unique, but they really are filling an empty niche in my stamping arsenal. The ideas are still swirling!
