Door Makeover

Well here I am, winding down the long weekend. Let me tell you. I sanded, painted, painted some more, cleaned, crafted...and now, now I am tired. And sore. And sore and tired. But it was all worth it. Next to paper crafts, I love, love, love home improvement and decorating projects.

Last year we had our kitchen remodeled. Even after a whole year, there are little finishing touches that need to be completed, like the door in our kitchen that leads out to the garage. It was the only door that did not match our new, white six panel doors throughout the house. We thought about replacing it, but it is a nice, heavy door and we knew it would be expensive to replace. Here's a quick "before" shot I took with my iPhone. (My husband had already taken it down and I had sanded it, but he had to put it back up so we could go to the home improvement store for more supplies!)

See the nice white trim? And the cherry cabinets in the kitchen, to the right? Well, this door really stuck out and was just begging for some attention. So this is what I decided to do with it:

The door got two coats of a nice, clean, white enamel paint. Sigh. I taped off a large rectangle and painted it with black chalkboard paint. My husband framed it out for me with some 1.5 inch trim. And then...and then...I made this cute title with my Silhouette digital cutter and white vinyl. I've had the vinyl for months and never used it. I am so thrilled at how it turned out!

I like that this title can have dual meaning. It's fun to write the food menu, but it could also mean the list of things I have to accomplish for the day. Either way, it's just a fun touch for our home. And my daughter thinks it's pretty fun. It was only a matter of minutes before I found this on the new chalkboard:

Can I tell you...chalkboard paint could be addicting! I'm really trying to restrain myself from making little chalkboards all over the house! After all, I have a lot of paint left!

Before I go, I need to let you know the details of the September Waltzingmouse Stamps release. There will be three days of sneak peeks, beginning Thursday, September 9. Then we'll have a release day blog waltz on September 12. I am participating on all four days, so make sure you come back soon. I've been a busy bee, working on my projects and you don't want to miss what's coming up. Claire has truly out done herself, once again!

Thanks for stopping by tonight! Oh, and to Krista, who asked about the font I used on these photos, it's called CK Ali's Handwriting and you can download it for free here.

This is a terrific idea. Unfortunately all of my doors are paneled so I think I'll have to paint the chalkboard paint onto a piece of MDF and hang it....

Oh, and I'm like your daughter. I want Ics Crem... err.. Ice Cream Every Day TOO!

Thanks so much for posting the info about Ali Edward's font! I had forgotten I had even asked you about it, until I was scrolling down your page and my name popped out. Thanks again!
