Back To School

Or, in my daughter's case, to school for the very first time. Today we had a brief conference with Olivia's Kindergarten teacher and got the chance to meet another parent and child in Olivia's class. It was a nice opportunity to talk with the teacher before class starts next Wednesday. I'm full of information, dates, "to do" lists, supplies needed, snacks wanted, and other miscellaneous information that comes with being a parent of a school age kid. This is all so new for all of us, but very exciting!

I decided to make a few teacher gifts for Olivia's Daycare/Preschool teachers where she currently attends. I thought it would be a nice gift for the start of school. But, really, I just wanted an excuse to use my Bind-it-All and make something totally adorable. So everyone's getting these Post-It Note holders:

To make the holder itself, I used two 3.5 inch coasters. I covered the outside (front) with Cosmo Cricket patterned paper, and used Scarlet Jewel cardstock (PTI) on the other side (the side that shows when you open the holder). To embellish the cover, I inked the edges to give a distress look and added a strip of Scarlet Jewel that I stamped with an apple image. I then added the tag embellishment by first stamping it in white ink, adding the "ABC," then coloring the apple with colored pencils. When you stamp in white pigment ink, it gives you a great base for coloring!

It's hard to tell, but I also added some Glossy Accents to the apple, to give it a realistic apple appearance. I really love how this little project turned out! I'm off to make a few more - these will be great gifts throughout the school year. Here's some other gifts I made last year about this time - in case you're looking for back to school ideas.

Have a great weekend! We're enjoying a long weekend and finishing up some organization and shopping before the start of school. It's all getting very exciting (and busy) around here!
