This is my third (and final) post on the Owl Be Back...To School gift ensemble. This is the little hinged (altoid) tin that holds the bookplate labels.
These tins are great for a variety of uses (I made one here to hold a gift card). I knew when I started this set that I would in some way use the owl in connection with books. He's a wise owl, right? So I came up with the idea of bookplates! Bookplates are those labels that go inside your book to identify that it belongs to you. I created them by using Microsoft Word. I simply created text boxes, added a brown border, and typed in the text.
Once I had one exactly like I wanted it, I used copy and paste to fill an entire page. I then printed it on a whole sheet of label paper, cut each one out and rounded the corners with my corner rounder. The round corners really make it fit nice and neatly inside the tin. I stamped each label with the little owl from the Wise Owl set from Papertrey Ink. I left him uncolored, as colored pencils (keep reading) come with the gift. Why not put my little artist to work?!?The outside of the tin was decorated very similarly to the journal and the note holder. I covered the tin with Basic Grey's Elementary paper from their Recess collection. I printed on acetate, again, for the title. For this project I cut the acetate into a long strip so that I could make it a removable band that fit around the tin. This way the tin can be used for other things once the bookplates are all gone.
And there you have it! The only other item in this gift ensemble are the colored pencils, and I didn't make those! But I did make a simple tag that I punched out from my coordinating patterned paper. I made an overlay for the tag by printing on acetate and punching out, again using a tag punch (after much swearing, it did barely punch out - not all punches are created equally when it comes to punching out acetate! Test yours on a scrap piece first!).
Thanks to all of you for your great comments on this project. It was quite fun to create and will be even more fun to give! Wouldn't this make you want to go back to school?!? Well, it's better than new underwear, anyway.
