Owl Be Yours

I told you the owls would be back! This time I used both the large and small owls from the Wise Owl set from Papertrey Ink. And...the most exciting thing here...I used my new Cuttlebug to make this card! Hello?!? Why didn't anyone tell me that I had to have this thing? If I had only known, I would have bought it ages ago! I can now emboss and die cut. All on the same night! I was so excited, in fact, that I didn't take pictures to show the step-by-step. But you're smart, you'll get it.

I started with a Barely Banana card base that I embossed with the Swiss Dot embossing folder for the Cuttlebug. I cut a strip of Dark Chocolate cardstock that I used my Fiskars scallop edged scissors on. They are new, and they work much better than the old ones. (See this post for more details on that story.) I then cut a strip of Mellow patterned paper by Basic Grey. (That paper just says "owl," don't you think?) The owls themselves were stamped on Kraft cardstock. I colored them slightly (using the method described in this post), added a little white to the eyes with a colored pencil, then cut them out.

To finish it off, I added a little tag that I die cut using the Tiny Tags die for the Cuttlebug. I distressed the edges with a little of the Dark Chocolate ink. I then used brads to attach it to the patterned paper/chocolate layer, then adhered the whole thing to the card base. I adhered the large owl to the card then adhered the small owl with a little foam mounting tape so that he would stand out from the larger owl. And one last thing. I cut out a few flowers from the patterned paper and adhered them to the card with foam tape to make them stand out, too. The whole card then got a little distressed around the edges. I should add that I inked the card base itself before I added the other layers. The Barely Banana was just looking too "clean" to me. Well, that's number two for the owls, but you know they will be back!

Cute, cute, cute! Sharin' Memories gave me a Cuddlebug as a going away gift but I have not got into embossing yet. I've been thinking about it and now you have inspired me to give it a try. Mahalo!
