Altered Wood Gift Box

Earlier in the year, I made a promise to myself that I would start using what I already had before buying anything new. That's where this little wood gift box comes in. I bought it a million years ago and stashed it away, passing it over time and time again. Well, your time is now little wood gift box! Here's what it looked like when I started:

I think you will agree, it has gone through quite a transformation! I started with Mellow paper by Basic Grey. I love how the colors in this collection go well with the natural tone of the wood, especially since I left the inside of the box unfinished. I sanded and inked all the edges to finish it off. Once I picked the saying, I knew I had to use this large chipboard heart:

Something to keep in mind when you use accents that will "come off" of the project, like my heart did here. Make sure you finish off the other side, as it will show and you don't want the item to look unfinished. I topped the whole thing off with a little coordinating gift card, perfect for using up the scraps. And I couldn't stop there! I had to stamp some tissue paper to add to the box. A fun, unexpected addition to any present. So what do you have in your stash that you can use today?
